Got Food Cravings?Tiny Tummy Tips, Issue #52--Cravings Got You? Got cravings? Or would you say food cravings have got YOU?! Think bariatric surgery will “cure” your food cravings? Think again. While it may have been true in the beginning… cravings can… and will… come back. Sometimes with a vengeance. HOPING cravings go away ISN’T the answer. So… you should know that food cravings rear their ugly heads…but can also be managed… with a “Trifecta:” Your: BiologyEvery single one of us is affected by swings in our blood sugar levels. When it’s low… we have cravings.What to do? Control your biology… MAKE SURE you: 1. Eat regularly- every 3-4 hours. 2. Eat meals that contain protein and fiber (vegetables, fruits, beans). It’s the best way to get full, stay full, and prevent crashes in energy levels (low blood sugar).
It’s especially important to get the day started off this way. So wake up and smell the protein! PsychologyThere’s a difference between physical hunger (stomach growling) and head hunger (I WANT to eat).
Arm yourselves with awareness of the two because “you can never get enough of what you don’t need.” Very common head hunger triggers are “HALT:” Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired. Recognize the triggers that ignite YOUR cravings. Maybe it’s stress, boredom, or perhaps a specific time of day? By identifying these triggers, you can preemptively prepare your defenses! EnvironmentAnd finally…....If you buy it, you'll eat it! You eat what’s around, so keep a bariatric SAFE house. Out with the junk if it’s crept back in! And re-stock with healthy grab-n-go foods. If it's convenient, you're more apt to choose it! So stock up on foods like Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna/chicken/salmon pouches, premade hard boiled eggs, nitrate free deli turkey… …and easy to eat produce like: cherry tomatoes, snap peas, sweet mini peppers, persian cucumbers, radishes, apples, cuties, berries, pears.
