How to Have the BEST Thanksgiving YetTiny Tummy Tips, Issue #71: The Countdown to Thanksgiving is On! I’m sure you can’t believe it either, but Thanksgiving is NEXT WEEK! SO… I’ve got a NEW idea for you this year… How about making your Thanksgiving a little more about FUN and a little less about food this go around?! In other words… Take to heart making Thanksgiving a PEOPLE EVENT with food present… NOT a FOOD EVENT with people present. How? Focus on FUN! Stick with me here…. Of course you’ll have some food, but find at least ONE thing from my “FUN” list you can commit to doing, whether you’re hosing or attending, to reduce the importance of the food:
Turkey TrotSign up for a local “Turkey Trot” walk/run.There’s usually one in every major city, and you can walk as much or as little of the route as you want. And don’t forget the best part… You can dress up in turkey attire: No turkey trot in your area? Gather your family and friends and let them know you’re starting your own new tradition!
Turkey Hat
Gratitude ActivitiesBring a Symbol of GratitudeEncourage each family member or guest to bring an item that represents something they are grateful for and then do a show and tell. It could be a family photo, a book, or a handmade item… ..and sharing the stories behind these objects adds depth to your Thanksgiving gathering! Gratitude Conversation Starters A great way to avoid talking about politics… Write various gratitude-themed questions on cards and have each guest pick one. Examples: • “What’s your favorite Thanksgiving memory?” This game helps everyone feel included and prompts thoughtful sharing and meaningful discussion! Games Aren’t Just for KidsI LOVE GAMES! As adults sometimes we forget that we can still play. So how about providing or bringing fun games to the big day:
Do You Really Know Your Family Game
Thanksgiving Photo BoothThis is MY personal fav!Provide photo booth type props so everyone can take lots of fun pics. They’ll be a riot to look at in years to come.
Again… START NEW (NON FOOD) TRADITIONS! You Have to Eat, I KnowOf course you must navigate the food, so last but not least here are my previous Thanksgiving tips and suggestions for every diet stage:
Thanksgiving at Every Diet Stage Thanksgiving is a VerbAnd finally…I say this every year, but I think it always bears repeating. Take time to give thanks. For everything. Live everyday with an attitude of gratitude. Use Thanksgiving Day to remind yourself to do so. Gratitude changes everything. Consider starting a gratitude journal and never stop writing in it!
Be thankful for how far you’ve come…even if you’re not where you want to ultimately be. Make a list of any non-scale victories you’ve enjoyed. If you haven’t had your surgery yet, be thankful you’ve started on the journey. If you’ve had surgery and have experienced weight regain, be thankful for the “tool” you have and know it can work for you again. Please know that I’m grateful for YOU. Thank you for the time you take to read the words I write. Wishing you and your loved ones a very happy, healthy and FUN Thanksgiving Day!!!!
